During a recent walk I found myself stopping to admire this heart shaped rock. Its simple form called to my mind the Biblical quote “harden not thy heart”. Then I was inspired to ask myself the following questions:
“Have I allowed any parts of my heart to harden?”
“Is my heart soft enough to lovingly allow others to act or believe differently from me?”
“Is my heart so stiff from self-interests that I am blinded to the needs and sensitivities of others?”
“Have I held onto any grievances that may have turned my heart to stone?”
And finally, I ask myself if I am honoring the words of King Solomon,
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life!”
Today I pray that my heart will soften and that I may add more love and kindness into this world.
