I love the Earth and all of creation.
I like to wake up each morning and begin with a list of gratitude for all of Nature and all of Life. I often read articles about the Earth, articles about Her soils, seeds, and food supplies. Today I came across an article on the topic of “Biologicals.” It explained the process of releasing genetically engineered microscopic creatures into the soil. It detailed the hope that these laboratory microbes would increase crop yields by enhancing the soil’s ability to kill pests and deliver nitrogen. Yet within that hope, I couldn’t help but wonder about the possible impact that these “new” microbes might have on the natural microbial system in other surrounding soils. Thinking about this, and the many other consequences that seem to be resulting from some of our modern chemical and technological advances, my mind has been reflecting on the philosophical idea of CONNECTEDNESS.
Thoughout the ages, great thinkers and writers have written about this idea, and have preached that “ALL of LIFE” is interconnected. Yet in the development of many of the conveniences of our modern life style, we seem to have often disregarded this notion. Below are two views on CONNECTEDNESS. The first was attributed to one of the World’s Greatest Spiritual Teachers, and the other “words of warning” were spoken over 2500 years later by one of the World’s Greatest Scientists. After reflecting on these writings, I cannot help but think that now is the time to incorporate the concept of CONNECTEDNESS into all aspects of our lives.
“As a net is made up of a series of ties, so everything in this world is connected by a series of ties. If anyone thinks that the mesh of a net is an independent, isolated thing, he is mistaken. It is called a net because it is made up of a series of interconnected meshes, and each mesh has its place and responsibility in relation to the other meshes.”
-Gautama Buddha
“Humans are living in an inner prison and prism of disconnectedness. We must break through this and understand our connectedness to all that is. THAT IS THE ONLY HOPE FOR PEACE, HARMONY AND LIFE ON THIS PLANET.”
– Albert Einstein
