On a recent beach walk, the shoreline was dotted by thousands of these tiny bubbles brought in by an incoming tide. Their magical beauty was eye catching, however it only lasted for a few seconds, before the next wave redefined the scene.
With Christmas on my mind, I started thinking about Gifts and Gift Giving. I asked myself questions like: “How do I feel when someone unexpectedly sends me a gift?”
“ What are the gifts that I most treasure “
And “What are the Gifts that seem to endure the test of time?”
Firstly, I love receiving unexpected gifts, no matter what it may be.
For these gifts bring a message of surprise that says “I like, honor and appreciate you!”
Next, I always treasure gifts from the heart. Something inside is “touched” when a gift or card was made or picked especially for me. These gifts seem to come with a spirit of gratitude, and always have a value beyond measure.
But as my mind continued to contemplate “Gifts that endure”, I realized that material things usually do not endure the test of time. At some point their magic dissipates, likened to my magical beach bubbles.
Then I began to contemplate on the reason Christmas is celebrated…to remember the birth of Jesus Christ! The Birth of a Man that revolutionized the world!
For me, it is important to remember that this story of Revolution takes place during a time when the world was filled with brutality, and void of any dignity or respect for human life. It is a Story that announces to a savage world, that “God became Man!” and it is a story that ultimately reveals that we too are Children of God.
Wow! Could this be “The Gift?” ….
Could God becoming Man be THE Gift that endures forever?
Then I took one last glance at a new batch of bubbles, and thanked them for my lesson on Gift Giving!
Merry Christmas!
