The December skies speak loudly of the relationship between the Sun and the Earth. They are a reminder of the ever changing balance of the light and darkness in our world. Dealing with the darker side of this balance has never been easy, thus so many of our Christmas and Holiday traditions offer us ways to transform, illuminate, and bring Hope into our darkest of days. For me, the picture of these brilliant tree lights is one my favorite examples of how to transform darkness.
During a recent walk, I stopped to admire this brightly lit strand of pine trees. I was struck by their Magic, as their tiny lights transformed an otherwise darkened evening. Their beauty was extraordinary. Their magnificent illumination came from thousands of tiny lights all shining together. I stared for a moment, and then noticed that there was not any evidence of one light being bigger, brighter, or more important than the others. Rather, all of this splendor came from connecting a countless number of tiny, ordinary lights. Then, as I began to walk away, the song, “This little Light of mine, I’m going to let it shine,” echoed in my mind.
I love the idea that we each take the responsibility of “Letting our own Little Light Shine”, and then allow Life to connect us with others who are doing the same. Similar to the tiny lights pictured above, our actions and attitudes of gratitude, kindness, and respect, become like tiny lights of Hope and Love. Strung together, they become a powerful way to transform darkness.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!!
