For me, celebrating Spring is synonymous with celebrating Soil! One of my favorite seasonal traditions is to lie on the Earth and “feel” the soil come alive. The sunlight and warming temperatures trigger millions soil microbes to begin their life’s journey and to a sensitive soul you can literally feel “The earth move under my feet!”
April is the month dedicated to the Earth and since one of the definitions of “Earth” is soil, I cannot help but express my Love and Respect for this precious resource. Her Soil is one of the greatest contributors to our individual health, and also feeds the entire food chain here on planet Earth.
We must feed the soil only that which we would feed our bodies, for ultimately what we put in the soil will end up in our bodies!
We must rethink how we live and care for our soil as recent reports warn us that much of the Earth’s soil is now considered dead or endangered.
There is no better time than April (Earth Month) to recognize, learn about, and reflect on our connection to this great source of much of our food supply. Our life depends on this magnificent Gift of Creation and caring for the Earth’s Soil is a collective responsibility. And so as our soil springs to life, let us be consciousness of both “Her” health and “Her” gifts.
