Nature is a brilliant teacher.
Her life lessons are never ending. When we are still we can often hear Her speak.
Yesterday I was enjoying the simple pleasure of watching 2 bees feast on the pollen of some nearby flowers, and I heard Her quiet voice whisper the following:
“THE PATTERN OF THE UNIVERSE IS CONNECTEDNESS.
Everything is interconnected!
Nothing survives alone.
The birds know this, the bees know this, and all of life follows this dynamic.”
Somehow, somewhere, modern man seems to have lost touch with this basic truth. Could our desires for bigger, better, more and more, blind us to this basic fact of physics? Have the 3M’s of ‘Me, Mine and More’ led us down a path of separation and isolation.
With my lesson from the bees in mind, I began to recall the following statement written by the Dalai Lama, “I certainly admire the tremendous growth of Western societies, but I deplore the fact that their Ideology has led an entire generation to ignore the law of interdependence that is the corollary of compassion.”
Albert Einstein also noted “The human being is part of a whole, and that whole we call ‘The Universe’. Man experiences his thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest; a kind of delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison, and our task is to free ourselves from this prison, by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of Nature.”
Many would agree that the future of our Planet is at a crossroads. We can no longer ignore the reality of the Universal pattern of Connectedness. Rather, this particular moment in time offers us the opportunity to individually and collectively break our delusion of separateness, and begin working within the realities of Interdependence, Compassion and Connectedness. Then, and only then, can we live in true harmony with the magnificence of our glorious Planet.
